Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following statement regarding the
death of Clarence “Del” Smith:
“Clarence
was a distinguished public servant and a part of California history. He has
left a lasting legacy and his jovial spirit will forever remain in the hearts
of those who knew him. Maria and I send our deepest sympathies to Clarence’s
family and we will keep them in our prayers.”
Smith
served as a pilot for California One, the official state airplane used by
Governor Earl Warren, Governor Goodwin Knight and Governor Edmund G. “Pat”
Brown. He was a World War II aviator and served as a captain and assistant
adjunct general for the California National Guard.
