The Fox and Hare Officer’s Club.  Pictured is the rear of the officer’s club.  On the left is the Officer’s Mess.  Note the interesting color scheme.  Is it a coincidence that the colors of the Firebirds were red and white, too?   No, it couldn’t be!  Oops!  It’s International Orange and white.

“If my memory serves me correctly, the Firebirds had a hand in this paint job.  What I’m not sure of , is if this were the results of the first time it was painted or the second.  In any case, I know that one of the painting events grew of a late night O-club party.  Somewhere in the middle of the painting process the base commander was alerted to the proceedings.  Rather than come down with ‘all official might and wrath’ on the heads of the participants, he decided that if the boys wanted to ‘decorate,’ then they could do the job right – as in paint the whole club while he ‘supervised.’  I think that the event was followed up by a Bloody Mary party and breakfast.  As I said, this version may be the official ‘follow-up’ paint job.  The first ‘paint party’ fiasco resulted in a rather grim job.”   Jack Cayton, May 9, 2005

“Yes!!  This is the back side of the newer Officer's Club at Sonde.  A group of locally assigned troops, and two or three of the 17th troops, were involved in painting the Day-Glow-Orange and White stripes.  I don't remember who else was involved in the painting, but I was one of the culprits.   The Base Commander made all involved go back and do a “repaint” to make it come out right.  There was also a party at the Officer's mess hall for those involved.”  Life N. “Lin” Dove
