Ski Landings and Stratugi

Ski Touchdown.   Depending upon snow conditions, the ski touchdowns could be rough.  Note the wind shaped “snow dunes” in foreground which are called stratugi.   Stratugi could be quite dangerous to ski equipped C-130’s if they became frozen and hardened.  Before a semi-prepared skyway was used, the nose gear of several ski birds collapsed after striking these ridges of ice.
