New Zealand Antarctic expedition dog teams with the 61st Troop Carrier Squadron C-130D 70-492, and a Navy "Weasel" in the background. The 61st TCS's first mission in Antarctica was flown to the Marie Byrd Land site on January 25, 1960, and made the first flight to the South Pole with a C-130D "ski model" on January 27, 1960. |
