Major John
Nave
December 13, 1930 – January 25, 2024
We remember Major John Nave, a respected pilot and beloved member of the Firebirds community, who has flown west at the age of 92.
John was known for his skill in the cockpit, leadership, and camaraderie among his fellow aviators. After his time in the 17th Special Operations Squadron, he continued his aviation career in Austin, Texas, where he trained pilots and flew commercially.
Among the memories shared by those who knew him:
He was an excellent pilot who had a lasting impact on those he flew with.
He had a great sense of humor, once making an unforgettable entrance at a Christmas party—straight into the Christmas tree!
He remained connected with his squadron, with fellow Firebirds recalling time spent with him and his wife, Jana, in Austin.
John Nave’s contributions to the Firebirds and his impact on those who served with him will not be forgotten. His legacy is carried on in the memories of those who had the honor of flying alongside him.
